The legacy of Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar , the greatest person ever of Indian cricketing world has called it a day. Since last four or five days , every newspaper, TV channel, the world of Internet is full of praise for this legend of cricket.
I have followed Sachin since the day he played his first cricket test in 1989, all the great knocks which has made India proud of him, are moving like snapshots in my mind. No doubt Sachin has given a new meaning to game of Cricket in India. Most of batting world records are now in his name. The records which he has made will be difficult to be broken in near future. Sachin Tendulakar has established as one of the select best of all time greats of world cricket. Any page of cricket will be incomplete without Sachin printed in it.

However, for me greatness of Sachin Tendulkar is not limited to his cricketing genius. What makes him truly a great person is his gentle nature , humble attitude both on and off the field. World sports is known for great players who have also made news of their arrogance both on and off the field. Sachin has never been like that.

Giving Sachin , Bharat Ratna is good news. He deserve it , but I would have been more happy if  ,the hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand (which many consider to be the greatest sports man India has ever seen) would also have been awarded this award along with Sachin.

Anyway, Sachin is in our heart and will remain so for ever.

Chhath Parv at Patna

Chhath  festival was celebrated with traditional fervor and festive mood. This festival of Chhath that commenced with 'Nahai Khaya' on Wednesday and concluded with final obeisance paid to the sun God in the morning of Saturday.
I was put on official duty at Gandhi Ghat (Bank of river Ganges) on Friday evening for live coverage of this grand festival by AIR,Patna. Overall atmosphere at ghat was so sombre, pious and festive with huge crowed displaying  unique discipline , which is never seen in day to day life. That is the greatness of this festival.
Here are some photos taken at Gandhi Ghat :

Remembering Gandhi

Today is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi- One of the greatest human ever born in this world.
People in India look upon Gandhi in two ways; first he has got freedom for this country and second his policy and thinking is the root cause of many problems of this country.

Many people believe that Gandhi was too soft on muslims , He did not follow impartial principle w.r.t. communal harmony and that in spite of the Pakistani aggression in Kashmir, #Gandhiji fasted to compel the government of India to release an amount of Rs. 55 crores due to Pakistan in 1948. If  nation was divided on the basis of religion, it should have reflected in Indian polity too.And then perhaps , we were not facing the kind of communal divide as exist today. His thinking on mode of development is outdated in present context.

Some of above facts may be correct, but I view Gandhi from a different perspective. Gandhi gave this world something which is unparallelled in the history of human civilization. He gave us a too of non violence which is highly effective in pursuing justified demands. What Gandhi preached , he followed them whole heartedly.

Gandhijee said  :"The world will live in peace , only when the individuals composing it make up their minds to do so".

Undoubtedly each and every person or we should say every citizen of the global family, ought to be committed to peace in today's human predicament , caused by conflicts due to Ideological Extremism, Religious Fundamentalism, Misguided Nationalism, Economic Injustice and Inequality. Violation of Human Rights, Suppression of Freedoms,  Population Explosion, Racial and Ethnic Discrimination, etc.
Gandhi recognized .the potentiality of these various kinds of conflict as occasions to contemplate over the confirmed problems and also as opportunity to search peaceful means to resolve them, because of his positive attitude . To achieve simultaneously the negative aim of conflict situation  and the positive aim of establishing peace, Gandhi propounded his philosophy of peace. The need of ours is to proclaim again and again the significance of Gandhian principles to solve crucial problems of conflicts and violence.
Gandhi's approach had always been Holistic as human life is a synthetic whole, which can not be divided into watertight compartments of social , religious, political life etc.
Gandhi may not be remebered as the greatest statesman but certainly his life was itself so pious that we can follow blindly what he practiced in his personal life. Following personal life of Gandhi will , no doubt, help in character building of individual, society and nation. His economic policies may not be practical today but if we follow Gandhi's principle of truth and non violence in our day to day life , then most conflict situations will simply vanish.
This is the way , we should remember Gandhi.

Characteristics of Ethical People

Ethics is a central component of any happy, healthy, and mature life. In any organisation  . ethical people are in great demand. They always prove to be more useful to the organisation in their work output in comparison to non ethical persons, who may times become liability in their own organisation.
Some hardcore characteristics of ethical persons are:

1- They are Empathic: Ethical people have high degree of emotional intelligence. They understand things from multiple perspectives covering all the direct and indirect stake holders.. They seek first to understand than to be understood. They have strong observatory, listening and analytical skills to understand things deeply. This quality makes them unique which enables them to win the trust of others; consequently, people share their problems with them with open heart and seek their support.

2- They Forgive and Forget: It requires a brave heart to forgive and forget. Ethical people don't keep grudges for long duration. They have the tendency to establish peace all the times hence keeping the brawls open does not suit them. They stay away from such complications and move ahead with life by forgiving and forgetting the matters.

3- They are Always willing to Help: Highly Ethical people always want to improve the situation regardless of their relationship with a person who is in trouble. They take either corrective, preventive or suggestive initiatives for resolving issues. Corrective approach ensures that the matter is fixed by doing some specific actions. Preventive approach guarantees that such particular matters do not appear again. They use preventive approach to reach the root cause of the issue so as to fix it permanently so as to avoid further frequency of such incidents. Suggestive methodology is used by them for guiding someone to do some specific act in order to overcome a tragic situation.

4- They are Implosive: Ethical people are not hyper sensitive or explosive personalities. They possess a cool mind and a soft heart. They avoid frequent mood swings in order to develop a consistent and stable personality. They handle indecencies with decency. They know how to ignore hard and harsh comments and still converse softly. They know how to handle idiotic situations. They have high degree of anger management skills which further empowers their implosive personality trait.

5- They Mind Their Own Business: A lot of people have the habit of having serious curiosity about every other person's life. This habit causes them talk about people too much, spreading rumors and scattering false news in the society without any verification. Unlike those, ethical People do not interfere in others' lives unnecessarily; they mind their own business. Ethical people understand the fact the character assassination is equally a great sin so they don't give attention to rumors and focus on crystal clear matters; and avoid peeping into others' personal matters.

6- They are Flexible & adaptable: The wise says, it is better to bend than to break. Ethical people possess a great deal of elasticity. They adapt themselves according to the situation. They don't stick to one mind set. Their continuous thought process enables them to change their minds easily in order to improve a situation without making it a matter of ego. They are not stubborn at all instead portray a flexible behavior in all kind of tough situations.

7- They Do not criticize: Too much criticism is the root of several social and professional problems. Ethical people do not criticize at first place. In case they need to condemn or criticize something they follow a positive methodology to approach the relevant person and advice in a way which doesn't hurt anyone and convey the message in an effective way.

Sory with management lesson

It may appears strange but it is a fact that in the world of management , it is not efficiency and honesty counts. These two stories really give us eye opening management lessons:

Story # 1

It's a fine sunny day in the forest and a lion is sitting outside his cave, lying lazily in the sun. Along comes a fox, out on a walk.

Fox: "Do you know the time, because my watch is broken"

Lion: "Oh, I can easily fix the watch for you"

Fox: "Hmm... But it's a very complicated mechanism, and your big claws will only destroy it even more."

Lion: "Oh no, give it to me, and it will be fixed"

Fox: "That's ridiculous! Any fool knows that lazy lions with great claws cannot fix complicated watches"

Lion: "Sure they do, give it to me and it will be fixed"

The lion disappears into his cave, and after a while he comes back with the watch which is running perfectly. The fox is impressed, and the lion continues to lie lazily in the sun, looking very pleased with himself.

Soon a wolf comes along and stops to watch the lazy lion in the sun.

Wolf: "Can I come and watch TV tonight with you, because mine is broken"

Lion: "Oh, I can easily fix your TV for you"

Wolf: "You don't expect me to believe such rubbish, do you? There is no way that a lazy lion with big claws can fix a complicated TV.

Lion: "No problem. Do you want to try it?"

The lion goes into his cave, and after a while comes back with a perfectly fixed TV. The wolf goes away happily and amazed.

Scene : Inside the lion's cave. In one corner are half a dozen small and intelligent looking rabbits who are busily doing very complicated work with very detailed instruments. In the other corner lies a huge lion looking very pleased with himself.

Moral : IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY A MANAGER IS FAMOUS; LOOK AT THE WORK OF HIS SUBORDINATES.

Management Lesson in the context of the working world : IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY SOMEONE UNDESERVED IS PROMOTED; LOOK AT THE WORK OF HIS SUBORDINATES

Story # 2

It's a fine sunny day in the forest and a rabbit is sitting outside his burrow, tippy-tapping on his typewriter. Along comes a fox, out for a walk.

Fox: "What are you working on?"

Rabbit: "My thesis."

Fox: "Hmm... What is it about?"

Rabbit: "Oh, I'm writing about how rabbits eat foxes."

Fox: "That's ridiculous ! Any fool knows that rabbits don't eat foxes!

Rabbit: "Come with me and I'll show you!"

They both disappear into the rabbit's burrow. After few minutes, gnawing on a fox bone, the rabbit returns to his typewriter and resumes typing.

Soon a wolf comes along and stops to watch the hardworking rabbit.

Wolf: "What's that you are writing?"

Rabbit: "I'm doing a thesis on how rabbits eat wolves."

Wolf: "you don't expect to get such rubbish published, do you?"

Rabbit: "No problem. Do you want to see why?"

The rabbit and the wolf go into the burrow and again the rabbit returns by himself, after a few minutes, and goes back to typing.

Finally a bear comes along and asks, "What are you doing?

Rabbit: "I'm doing a thesis on how rabbits eat bears."

Bear: "Well that's absurd !"

Rabbit: "Come into my home and I'll show you"

Scene : As they enter the burrow, the rabbit introduces the bear to the lion.

Moral: IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW SILLY YOUR THESIS TOPIC IS; WHAT MATTERS IS WHOM YOU HAVE AS A SUPERVISOR.

Management Lesson in the context of the working world: IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW BAD YOUR PERFORMANCE IS; WHAT MATTERS IS WHETHER YOUR BOSS LIKES YOU OR NOT

----- A lot of people like me are experiancing both the above lessons--------

Child rape in Delhi- The shame capital of India

It is horrible, It is beyond imagination that someone can go so far in terms of cruality with a 5 year old girl. The culprit, in my view, must be a mentally insane , perverted person. Such kind of crimes should be unacceptable in a civilized society. Exemplary punishment is need of hour.
More disturbing is the behavior of police towards victims and her family. They displayed complete lack of sensibilities and extreme degree of negligence with malafide intention. They should have been dismissed from service.
However for me , more important is the fact that the family of victim are very poor, and this the main reason that they failed to get support of system on time. Had it been a case of VIP daughters , all the state machinery would have swung into action within no time and she would have been recovered within hours.
That is why, I always say that India is for the VIPs only. They are above law. All system resources are reserved for them. No police officers will touch them , even if they commit a crime. They can crush poor people sleeping on pavement by their foreign made car, but police will help them to escape from clutches of law.
VIPs and their sons/daughters never care for traffic regulations. They can park their vehicle at no parking zones. But traffic officials will not fine them.
We the people of India are destined to suffer , we suffered during Britsh raj and after independence , our own elected representatives are exploiting and torturing us.
If such crime can happen regularly in Delhi, then one can imagine the scene at small towns and villages across India.
And for Delhi, It is not only the capital of India but more appropriately...
                                       SHAME CAPITAL OF INDIA.

Turning 50 year old !

Celebrating 20th anniversary of my 30th Birthday. Wow ! What a way to describe the 50th birthday. No doubt , Completing 50 years of  life certainly is momentous, a big milestone. It is time of celebration and also a time  to evaluate what is important and what is not, in next part of my life.

I can feel happy, for the simple reason that I am healthy. Living in this world, full of pollution and also with not so good food habit,it is by no means a big achievement if you turn 50 and you are not on  any single daily dosage of any kind of drug. That makes me feel happy, satisfied and it is inspiring for me also. So I take a pledege today that 50 onwards, it will be my duty to take full care of my body by increasing physcical activities and also with balanced diet.

Turning 50 is a great occassion. I know , one part of my life has ended and I have entered into second and final part of my life. It gives me  a chance to look back into my life, my achievements, my failures , both have contributed a lot in shaping my life. I know, I have a number of great and good friends , who have stood with me in every season of life, they have done a lot for me, I lose my words when I try to explian their role in my well being. THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THEN A TRUE FRIEND IN YOUR LIFE.

I also know , I have a bunch of enemies too. Their role I can't underestimate..It is said that however bad a man, he will have some friends: however good, he will have some enemies.I know, You can't have only friends in your life, some Nonfriends or enemies are always in your life.

As I grow old, I think objectives of my life may be changing but it is my duty to make it more purposeful and beautiful.

At 50 now, I find life richer and fuller than ever, and I can still run four K.M. any time, (and , in lighter vein, hope still today some young women can hit me !! :-) ).

I know I am moving towards something very good, and MOST IMORTANT we all go there anyway.

So it is party time for me and all my friends ... Let us enjoy !!

Hoil at Siwan

Returned from my home at Siwan on 29th March after celebrating Holi there with family. Last time when i celebrated holi at my home in siwan was in the year 2003 . That time I celebrated this festival with my Father. With the death of my father in 2004 , we never went there during festival days. So much sentiments are attached with that my house , but could not 'dare' to go there in holi .

It is a fact that it is only holi when I tried every year to be with my parents at Siwan or my village. I remember that barring a few (One or Two) , every year I made it a rule to be with them during holi. This 'rule' didnot apply on other festivals like Diwali etc.
My father was such a towering personality that entire area revolved around him for every kind of advice. He was so active in social works that each and everyone of area essentially used to greet him in holi by paying a visit to my house.
That is the main reason that after the sad demise of my father , that I thought me and my mother , my wife, children will not be able to remain normal at siwan during holi.
Holi at siwan without my father is very disturbing, but life has to move on. So after nine years of death of my father , I decided to go to siwan during holi and feel his omnipresent presence at the home which he had built with so much passion.

It was an emotional visit. I liked and enjoyed it .

Best Gift

Life events may not be always as per our wishes, It will sometime shock us, sometime make us feel guilty, sometime just confuse us, but to keep balance and display a positive state of mind is absolutely necessery. Some quotes which are really inspiring:

"People are like stained glass windows:
they sparkle and shine when the sun's out,
but when the darkness sets in,
their true beauty is revealed only if there is light within"   "You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was"

"True friends are like jewels,
precious and rare."

"No man is capable of self-improvement if he sees no other model but himself"

And finally, GIFTS THAT DON’T COST US ANYTHING!!!

Give the gift of affection – be generous with appropriate hugs, kisses, pats on the back and handholds. Let these small actions demonstrate the love you have for family and friends.

Give the gift of laughter – clip cartoons, share articles and funny stories. Your gift will say, “I love to laugh with you.”

Give the gift of a written note – it can be a simple “Thanks for your help” note or a full letter. A brief, handwritten note may be remembered for a lifetime and may even change a life.

Give the gift of a compliment – a simple and sincere “You look great in red,” Or “That was a wonderful meal - it had great flavor” can make someone’s day.

Give the gift of listening – but you must really listen. No interrupting, no daydreaming, no planning your response. Just listening.

Give the gift of a favour – everyday, go out of your way to do something kind.

Give the gift of solitude – there are times when we want nothing better than to be left alone. Be sensitive to those times and give the gift of solitude,

Give the gift of a cheerful disposition – the easiest way to feel good is to extend a kind word to someone, really it is not that hard to say, “Hello or Thank You.”

AND..
Thanx to all who spare their precious time to read my blog.

Back to blogging !

Ah ! I am back to blogging ... It is always a nice feeling to be active in world of blogs. Although , I have not written much in recent past , but anyhow , I did read some good posts of my favourite blogs.  A great saying is - The word “listen” contains the same
letters as the word “silent.”- That's what I was exactly doing, though silent , I was always 'listening' to my fellow blogs.

Moreover, I am determined to continue to express my honest feelings on regular basis in my blogs. Let me have some thought provoking thoughts:

"Hate stirs up trouble,
but love forgives all offenses"

"Be nice and smile to everyone you meet. You don't know what they are going through, and they may need that smile, and treasure it."

"It is difficult to give away kindness.
It keeps coming back to you."

"Be not afraid of growing slowly,
be afraid only of standing still"

"Most of us are pretty good at keeping promises to others
and pretty bad at keeping promises to ourselves"

"It is better to deserve without receiving,
than to receive without deserving "

"A loving heart is always young"

No dobut spiritual sayings always lift my mood and all the negative feelings just vanished !
